The purpose of the Southern Wildfire Risk Assessment (SWRA) is to provide foundational information about wildfire hazard across all land ownership in the United States Forest Service Southern Region (Region 8). Such information supports fuel management planning decisions, as well as revisions to land and resource management plans. A wildfire risk assessment is a quantitative analysis of potential impacts by wildfire.
<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"><SPAN>This dataset is a 30-m cell size representation of people and property to depict wildfire risk to communities. Housing Unit Impact (HUImpact) incorporates the general consequences of fire on a home as a function of fire intensity and uses flame length probabilities from wildfire modeling to capture likely intensity of fire. HUImpact does not include the likelihood of fire occurring, and it does not reflect mitigations done to individual structures that would influence susceptibility. It is similar to Conditional Risk to Potential Structures (cRPS) in Scott et al. (in prep2024), but also incorporates housing unit density and distance from burnable land cover.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
