snippet: The purpose of the Texas Wildfire Hazard Assessment (TxWRAP) is to provide foundational information about wildfire hazard across all land ownership in the state of Texas. Such information supports fuel management planning decisions, as well as revisions to land and resource management plans. A wildfire hazard assessment is a quantitative analysis of potential impacts by wildfire.

description:

This spatial dataset was produced with the Wildfire Exposure Simulation Tool (WildEST), a cloud-based geospatial fire behavior characteristic simulation system. WildEST performs multiple deterministic simulations under a range of weather types (wind speed, wind direction, fuel moisture content) and weights those results based on weather type probabilities (WTP).

This expected risk to potential structures (RPS) dataset represents a measure that integrates wildfire likelihood and intensity with generalized consequences to a home on every pixel. For every place on the landscape, it poses the hypothetical question, "What would be the relative risk to a house if one existed here?" This allows comparison of wildfire risk in places where homes already exist to places where new construction may be proposed.

RPS is calculated by multiplying conditional risk to potential structures (cRPS) and burn probability (BP):

RPS = cRPS * BP

cRPS was calculated using WildEST wildfire behavior results and the following wildfire response functions based on vegetation lifeform (Tree, shrub, grass):

Flame length probability of 0-2 ft: 25, 20, 10

Flame length probability of 2-4 ft: 40, 35, 25

Flame length probability of 4-6 ft: 55, 50, 40

Flame length probability of 6-8 ft: 70, 65, 55

Flame length probability of 8-12 ft: 85, 80, 70

Flame length probability of >12 ft: 100, 95, 85
