Description: This dataset is a 30-m cell size representation of people and property to depict wildfire risk to communities. The methods for creating this dataset are the same as the Wildfire Risk to Communities project (WRC).Jaffe, Melissa R.; Scott, Joe H.; Callahan, Michael N.; Dillon, Gregory K.; Karau, Eva C.; Lazarz, Mitchell T. (In Review). Wildfire Risk to Communities: Spatial datasets of wildfire risk for populated areas in the United States. Fort Collins, CO: Forest Service Research Data Archive. https://doi.org/10.2737/RDS-2020-0060This dataset represents the relative potential risk to housing units. Housing Unit Risk (HURisk) incorporates the general consequences of fire on a home as a function of fire intensity, using flame length probabilities from wildfire modeling to capture likely intensity of fire, as well as annual Burn Probability as a measure of wildfire likelihood. HURisk does not reflect mitigations done to individual structures that would influence susceptibility. It is similar to Risk to Potential Structures (cRPS) in Scott et al. (in prep2024), but also incorporates housing unit density and distance from burnable land cover.
